Simmons and Simmons raises the standard in Stonewall’s Top 100
Simmons & Simmons has proved that size is not an obstacle for equality in the workplace after being ranked ninth in Stonewall’s top 100 gay-friendly workplaces of 2013.
This is the fifth year running that the firm has been listed as one of Britain’s best employers for lesbian, gay and bisexual staff. Applicants to the top 100 are measured against 25 questions across eight areas of good practice including policy, employee engagement and the number of openly gay, lesbian or bisexual employees at senior levels within the organisation.
Simmons can also claim the accolade of the highest-ever position achieved by a law firm. Not only that, but they’ve also received an additional ‘Star Performer Network Group’ award from the charity in recognition of the contribution that their LGBT network has made to workplace culture.
Colin Passmore, Senior Partner at Simmons & Simmons, said:
It is a great achievement to move up to ninth position and also to receive this additional endorsement. We are very proud to support a number of internal LGBT initiatives and our efforts are clearly reflected in our ranking as top law firm again.
Colleen Humphrey, Stonewall Director of Workplace, said:
‘Congratulations to Simmons & Simmons for securing a position on this year’s highly competitive Top 100 list. These results are significant as it’s just 10 years since we won vital legal protections for lesbian, gay and bisexual people in the workplace.’
But Simmons is not alone in the top 100 list. Other firms to make it into the top 100 include Baker & McKenzie (19), Pinsent Masons (22), Herbert Smith Freehills (30), Hogan Lovells (40), Eversheds (52), CMS Cameron McKenna (62) and Irwin Mitchell (72).
