Geoffrey Rutter, one of London’s top 50 family lawyers and a well-respected authority on divorce law, is moving from Collyer Bristow to join Davenport Lyons.

As reported on Spear’s, his son Philip is making the same move at the same time.

Mr Rutter is 75 years old, which should inspire the rest of us into not writing off the idea of career development in later life.

We couldn’t help but note on his Chambers listing that Mr Rutter qualified in 1960. Keen historians might recognise that as the year The Beatles were formed (with Stu Sutcliffe and Pete Best), Hitchcock’s Psycho was first released, Prince Andrew was born and JFK announced his candidacy for the Democratic Presidential nomination.

A loaf of bread cost 5p, footballers could be paid no more than £50 per week and the average house cost £2,530.

Mr Rutter is older than Ted Turner, Connie Francis and the musician Phil Everly.

Still think you’re too old to move? Nonsense. Get over to Professionals in Law this minute. AB
