OC’s the winner of Spinner…

Osborne Clarke is celebrating the hire of former Eversheds corporate head Mark Spinner to its London office. Mr Spinner is the ever-expanding firm’s 50th London partner and is expected to bring big-named clients such as Lloyds Banking Group subsidiary LDC, HIG European Capital Partners, RJD Partners and Trilantic Capital Partners.

…but his old firm n-Eversheds a tear

Spinner may have spun off to the OC, but the firm has proven that two can play at the lateral hire game after the acquisition of corporate finance partner Greg Hammond from US firm Akin Gump Stauss Hauer & Feld. Mr Hammond, who specialises in advising oil and gas companies on corporate finance transactions, has been brought on board to help boost the London office’s energy capabilities, and boasts an impressive list of past clients including Lukoil, Rusal and Société Générale.

Michelmores the pity for OC

OC’s West Country rival Michelmores has proven that size doesn’t matter when it comes to enticing new partners, with the hire of OC’s private client head Sandra Brown to its Bristol office. Ms Brown, whose start date is yet to be revealed, will be helping to ‘rapidly build’ the firm’s private client practice.

HSF arrests crime head

Herbert Smith Freehills has cracked another case this month with the collar of former Slater & Gordon partner Rod Fletcher to its London office. Mr Fletcher will be based in London and will co-head the firm’s corporate crime and investigations team with former Russell, Jones & Walker partner Graham More.

Simmons gears up for Singapore

Asia is the place to be at the moment, and Simmons & Simmons is wasting no time in preparing for the launch of its Singapore office with the hire of Sydney-based Norton Rose banking and finance partner Dan Marjanovic. As the firm is yet to get the green light for its new office, Mr Marjanovic will initially be based in Simmons’ Hong Kong office until permission is hopefully granted later this year.
