Judge gets it in the neck after controversial drinking game
We’re all for the UK’s top legal eagles being down with the kids. But there’s a time and a place. And sometimes judges need to show a little, well, judgement out of court as well as in it.
We’re referring to District Judge Rosemary Watters, who probably wasn’t anticipating that, by joining in with the ‘NekNominate’ drinking game that’s taking social media by storm, she would end up being plastered (not literally, we hasten to add) all over the rest of UK’s media.
The 15-second video that’s caused the furore shows her downing a shot of the hard stuff (rumoured to be either vodka or tequila) before uttering the craze’s signature “I neck and nominate you” phrase and handing over to a friend.
‘NekNominate’ has become a global phenomenon. But its many critics point to the fact that challenging someone to rapidly down spirits, combined with the peer pressure that’s often part and parcel of social media, is a potent mix.
According to the BBC, The Lord Chief Justice’s Office said: “Judge Watters recognises her foolish behaviour and would discourage anyone else from repeating what she did.”
We anticipate that, for the near future at least, Watters will be remaining as sober as a judge. (Sorry, couldn’t resist.) SC
